EDMOND (March 31) – Rose Cabato and Virginie Rodriguez pulled out three-set singles victories to spark No. 24-ranked Central Oklahoma to a come-from-behind 6-3 win over Lone Star Conference rival Cameron Wednesday afternoon at the wind-blown Broncho Courts.
UCO trailed 2-1 after the three doubles matches, but bounced back to claim five wins in the singles competition to rally past the Aggies.
Cabato claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles and Rodriguez prevailed 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 to key the comeback. The Bronchos also got straight-set singles wins from Eli Abramovic, Anto Rossini and Meredith Marney. with Marney earning a 7-6, 7-5 victory.
Abramovic and Julia Shviadok teamed up for UCO's lone doubles win, rolling to an 8-1 rout.
“It was a great match,” UCO coach Natalya Smith said. “Considering the wind and heat, I think both teams put everything on the line and it could have gone either way.
“I was very proud of the mental toughness and determination that our team displayed. This was a big win for us and helps secure our spot in regional rankings."
The Bronchos improved to 12-3 on the year and 2-1 in league play with the win. UCO returns to action Saturday, traveling to Durant to meet LSC rivals Southeastern Oklahoma and Tarleton State.
