UCO Wraps Up Florida Trip

Central Oklahoma Finishes 13th In Emerald Coast Collegiate

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Central Oklahoma finished 13th at the Emerald Coast Collegiate, which wrapped up with the third and final round Tuesday at Baytowne Golf Club.

UCO posted a 54-hole total 935 (311-321-303). Flagler College won the team title with an 852 (290-284-278). Central Missouri and St. Mary's (Texas) tied for second at 882, UT Permian Basin (887) and West Florida (899) rounded out the top five.

Flagler's Stella Jelinek won the individual title with a 8-under-par 205 for the tournament.

"It was a tough field and a tough course and we didn't play our best," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "You don't want those things to happen at the same time. We were grateful to play in this tournament, but we didn't play our best and the finish reflects that."

Estela Castillo led UCO with a 232 and finished 42nd in the individual standings. The freshman from Spain shot 75-78-79.

Jirasuda Khunarak finished 50th, and Emma Shelley and Scarlet Sturch both finished 55th. Khunarak was two shots in front of her teammates, firing a 54-hole 234. Shelley and Sturch both shot a 236.

Mika Ramos also competed for the Bronchos and posted a 244 (84-80-80).

Castillo's 8-over Tuesday was a three-day high, but Khunarak, Shelley and Sturch all lowered their scores in the final round. Khunarak posted a 4-over 75 with one birdie on the day. Shelley shot a team-best 2-over 73 Tuesday, sinking two birdie putts on the day. Sturch also made two birdies and finished the tournament with a 5-over-par 76.

Central Oklahoma will send part of its team to the Kyle Blaser Invitational March 25 in Oklahoma City, and the Bronchos wrap up the regular season with Arkansas Tech's tournament in Missouri April 8-9.

The 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Championships are scheduled for April 22-24 at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Mo. This year's NCAA Regional Championship will be held in Bartlesville May 6-8.
