UCO Plays Soccer At Pitt State For First Time

Bronchos Travel To Newest Club For Late Season MIAA Matchup

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Central Oklahoma returns to the pitch Friday night to face upstart Pittsburg State Friday at 2 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma goes into the MIAA matchup with an 8-5-3 overall record and a 5-2-3 mark in league play. Pitt State, in its inaugural season, welcomes UCO to southeastern Kansas with a 7-6-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 mark in the MIAA.
 
The regular season has reached its final week. Most teams have three matches left while UCO just has two. The Bronchos will play Pitt State Friday night but have Sunday off. Then UCO travels to Newman for the finale on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
 
Following Wednesday's matches, the league will announce the bracket for the 2024 MIAA Women's Soccer Championship, which begins Nov. 10 with the quarterfinal round of the eight-team postseason tournament. The top four teams will host a quarterfinals match. The semifinals and championship match will be held in Wichita.
 
Central Oklahoma is currently tied with Northwest Missouri for fourth place in the league standings. The teams played to a 0-0 draw in Edmond earlier this season. Northwest also has two matches left.
 
Central Oklahoma heads into its final two matches averaging 2.13 goals per game this season. The Bronchos have scored 34 goals in 16 matches this season. UCO takes 15.1 shots per game and puts 56.4 percent of those shots on goal.
 
Defensively, Central Oklahoma allows 1.56 goals per game, with 25 goals conceded this year. Opponents take 9.9 shots per game and put 54.4 percent of shots on goal.
 
Rebekah George leads Central Oklahoma's offense. The graduate student and forward has eight goals and four assists for a team-high 20 points on the season. George is tied for first in the MIAA in both goals scored and points. She ranks third in assists.
 
Madison Linavong is also top 10 in the league with five goals scored. That's the second most on the team. The senior midfielder/forward has three assists as well.
 
Caleah Carter, Harmony Turner, and Rebecca Tweedy all have four goals this season and Jordan Tanges adds three to give UCO a lot of options on the attack.
 
Defensively, Avery Bass has been the top goalkeeper for the Bronchos this season. The junior has 50 saves on the season in 13 games played and has a 1.40 goals allowed average having conceded 16 goals. Bass is 6-4-2 in goal.
 
Olivia Vigil has also played in seven games and allowed nine goals. She has 11 saves on the year and a 2-1-1 record in goal.
 
Pittsburg State has scored 20 goals on the year, averaging 1.33 per game. The Gorillas have allowed 18, a 1.20 per game average. Pitt State takes 11.7 shots per game and puts 48 percent on goal while opponents manage 10.7 against PSU putting 52.2 percent on target.
 
Central Oklahoma will return home following the Pittsburg State matchup and take Sunday off before moving to Wichita, Kansas for the finale on Wednesday. Newman is 0-15-1 on the season with an 0-10-0 mark in the MIAA.
