Bronchos Visit Missouri Western & Northwest Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma continues a four-game road trip this weekend with the last two contests at Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri.

The Bronchos, 4-2-5 on the season, visit the Griffons in St. Joseph on Friday at 7 p.m. before meeting the Bearcats of Maryville, Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. UCO is 1-1-3 in league play after two and half weeks. MWSU has a 3-5-4 overall record and a 1-2-2 count in league play. Northwest is 3-4-5 overall and 0-2-3 in the MIAA.

"We continue to preach consistency to the team," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We can play really well one game and not very well the next. We know what we're capable of, but we've struggled to play at that level on a regular basis. That's what we need to do this weekend."

Central Oklahoma has yet to string two wins together this year. The Bronchos did put together a five-game unbeaten streak, going 2-0-3 from Sept. 22 – Oct. 6. UCO came up short in its last contest at Fort Hays State to snap that run, but the Bronchos look to start a new streak Friday at Missouri Western.

UCO is averaging 1.83 goals per game, scoring 22 times this season. The Bronchos average 12.2 shots per game and put 46 percent of those shots on goal. Defensively, Central Oklahoma allows 1.17 goals per game, conceding 14 on the year. UCO sees its opponents take 10.5 shots per game with 40 percent on goal.

Lauren Piper and Amaya Grace lead the Bronchos with four goals apiece. Piper also has a team-high three assists to give her the lead with 11 points. Grace has one assist and nine total points this season.

Albany Adair and Elena Conaway both have three goals this season and both have one assist too. Matilda Torres has two goals scored. Five players have scored once for the Bronchos. Madison Linavong has two assists.

Central Oklahoma has used all three goalkeepers this season. Caroline Faulkner has played in 7 of 12 games, Avery Bass has played in three, and Olivia Vigil two. All three keepers have played the full 90 minutes in each game played.

Faulkner leads the Bronchos with 20 saves on the year and the junior goalkeeper from Tulsa continues to climb toward No. 100 for her career. Faulkner is up to 95 career saves, which ranks No. 10 on Central's all-time list.

Faulkner is 2-2-3 in goal this season. She has a 1.14 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

Bass is 1-0-2 in three games with 10 saves. She has conceded four goals. Vigil is 1-1-0 in two games with seven saves. She has allowed two goals.

Missouri Western is averaging 1.42 goals per game with 17 total goals on the year. The Griffons have given up 16 goals, a 1.33 goals per game average. MWSU has twice strung together three-game unbeaten streaks this season and is looking to snap a two-game losing streak Friday night.

Northwest Missouri has also strung together a pair of three-game unbeaten streaks this season. NWMSU is currently on a streak of three consecutive draws. The Bearcats have also scored 17 goals this season, 1.42 per game, and have given up 15 goals, 1.25 per game.

Central Oklahoma returns home next weekend to take on Washburn and Emporia State. The Bronchos host WU Friday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. and will take on ESU Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field on campus.
