Timmermans, Edwards Are Statistical Champions

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 14) – A pair of Central Oklahoma sluggers ended up as national leaders, according to the final NCAA Division II softball statistics report released Thursday.

Nathalie Timmermans topped the country in total home runs (23) and runs scored per game (1.36), while Kacie Edwards led Division II in runs batted in per game (1.52) as the two All-Americans helped power the Bronchos to a record-setting season this spring.

Timmermans also ranked second in homers per game (.42), fourth in slugging percentage (.909), seventh in RBI per game (1.24), ninth in on-base percentage (.538) and 12th in average (.463) as she set single-season school records for homers, runs (75), hits (81) and walks (30).

Edwards ranked sixth in total homers (19), 10th in homers per game (.37), 12th in slugging percentage (.855) and 19th in average (.453) in finishing with a school-record 79 RBI.  The junior star already owns school career records for hits, doubles, RBI and homers.

Brittany Weaver finished sixth in hit by pitch per game (.33) and set a Division II career record by being hit by pitch 63 times.

Rachael Steverson finished 11th in wins with a school-record 28.

As a team, UCO ranked fourth in average (.354), fourth in homers per game (1.25), fifth in won-loss percentage (.836), sixth in slugging percentage (.536) and seventh in scoring (6.91 runs/game).

The Bronchos enjoyed their best-ever season in 2012, finishing 46-9 and winning the South Central Regional championship en route to a third-place national finish.
