UCO Comes In Fourth

Andrew Green
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Sept. 29) -- Central Oklahoma knocked 15 strokes off its first-round score and finished in fourth place in the Division II Preview that ended here Tuesday.

The Bronchos had a closing 305 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Sagamere Golf Club to finish two trips around the 7,038-yard, par-72 layout with a 625 total.  Central Missouri had a final-round 301 and won the 18-team tournament at 610.

Bellarmine was second at 622, with host Indianapolis edging UCO by one shot for third.  Click here for full tournament results.

The Bronchos actually had the lead after shooting a collective two-under-par on their front nine, but UCO shot 19-over on its final nine holes to fall back.

"I'm very proud and very disappointed at the same time," UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  "My guys fought hard and did a great job getting us in position to win the tournament, but then we couldn't finish.

"It was a great learning experience for us and should make us better down the road.  We held our own in a really good tournament on an incredible golf course and that was encouraging."

Sophomore Andrew Green bounced back from an opening-round 87 -- his worst round as a collegian -- with a closing 74 to lead the Bronchos Tuesday.   UCO also got a 76 from freshman Colin Morgan, while senior Zach Cleland shot 77, sophomore Matt Charlson 78 and redshirt freshman Dillon Rust 80.

Morgan had the lowest finish for the Bronchos, tying for 13th with a 156 total.

UCO ends its abbreviated fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational.
