UCO Finishes Fifth

WICHITA, Kan. (Sept. 11) -- Central Oklahoma got top-20 finishes from Alina Istrate and Evelyn Berko to come in fifth at the Friends Cross Country Invitational here Friday evening.

The Bronchos finished with 136 points in 15-team event that was won by Fort Hays State with 60 points. Cowley County Community College was second, followed by host Friends, Southwestern (Kan.) and UCO.

Istrate toured the five-kilometer course at Lake Afton Park in 20:03.00 to come in 15th, while Berko ran a 20:23.14 to finish 19th in the 128-runner field.

The Bronchos also got a 26th-place effort from Angelica Martinez (20:44.00), with Julia Crocker coming in 36th (21:05.00), Hannah Pempsell 41st (21:34.00), Angel Vick 42nd (21:37.00) and Cara Cox 46th (21:49.00).

UCO returns to action next Saturday at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
