Durham Named All-American

Giorgio Durham
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Dec. 8) – Central Oklahoma's Giorgio Durham earned first-team recognition on the 2009 Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II All-America Football Team, it was announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety was the lone sophomore selected to the 11-player first-team defensive unit and was also the only first-team defender from the Lone Star Conference.

This is the 17th year the Daktronics, Inc. All-America team has been selected by a vote of sports information directors from NCAA Division II football playing members.  The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.

Durham earlier claimed first-team All-LSC North Division accolades and Defensive Back of the Year honors as well as making the Daktronics, Inc. All-Super Region 4 first-team squad.

A product of Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City, Durham led the league and ranked fifth nationally with eight interceptions while adding 66 tackles (42 solo) and six passes broken up.

He intercepted two passes against Southwest Baptist and picked off passes in six other games while also intercepting a two-point conversion attempt that didn't count in the individual statistics.

Durham becomes the 74th UCO player to earn All-America honors.

The Bronchos finished 4-7 in 2009, winning three of their final four games while going against a schedule that included five ranked opponents and seven road games.
