NEW YORK, NY (April 27) – Central Oklahoma has taken over as the new No. 1 team in the NCAA Division II men's golf rankings, according to the poll released Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Bronchos, who were already No. 1 in the golfstat.com head-to-head statistical rankings, jumped from fourth to first in the GCAA coaches' poll after winning the Lone Star Conference championship last week.
UCO received eight of the 14 first-place votes cast to finish with 342 points, edging Lynn (Fla.) by two points. Previous No. 1 Chico State was third in the poll, followed by West Florida and league rival Abilene Christian.
The Bronchos have won eight of 11 tournaments this year and will an 286.5 per-round scoring average into next week's South Central/Central Regional in Georgetown, Ky.
That three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday and concludes Wednesday, with the top five teams if the 20-team field advancing to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships May 17-20 in Florence, Ala.
Oklahoma has three No. 1 teams in the latest GCAA rankings, with Oklahoma State atop the Division I poll and Oklahoma Christian first in the NAIA ratings.
