EDMOND (March 19) –
Rachael Steverson tossed a two-hitter and Kacie Edwards belted a grand slam to lead Central Oklahoma to a first-game rout as the Bronchos gained a doubleheader split with Cameron here Saturday.

UCO rolled to an 8-0 shutout in the opener that was shortened to five innings on the run rule, but the Aggies bounced back to hold off a last-inning threat and take the nightcap 7-5.

“We had a chance to win both games and just didn't get it done,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said. “It was a disappointing weekend for us.”

The Bronchos, now 13-11 on the season and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, host Fort Hays State for a doubleheader Wednesday at noon.

Edwards broke open a scoreless game in the third inning of the opener with her two-out, bases-loaded homer and UCO made it 5-0 in the fourth on Megan Bentley's RBI double.

The Bronchos ended it with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, getting a run-scoring double from Edwards and RBI single from Brooke Walters.

Steverson was nearly untouchable in the circle, giving up just two hits while walking two and striking out one.

CU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second contest, but the Bronchos came back to tie it in the fourth on Brittany Weaver's two-run homer.

The Aggies answered right back, getting a grand slam of their own in a five-run fifth to open up a 7-2 lead.

UCO tried to rally, getting solo homers from Edwards and Megan Whitmire in the next two innings and then loaded the bases in the seventh. Whitmire drove in a run with a single to pull the Bronchos within 7-5, but CU got out of the jam to hold on.
