Bronchos Split With ECU

EDMOND (March 19) – Uriah Fisher and Kade Kauk combined for a two-hit shutout in the opener and Central Oklahoma split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader with East Central here Saturday afternoon.

Fisher pitched the first six innings and Kauk the final frame in a 7-0 first-game romp before the Tigers rolled 9-1 in the nightcap to take the finale in the three-game weekend series.

“It was a very disappointing finish to a productive week,” UCO coach Dax Leone said. “We were satisfied in winning the series and let our guard down in game three. Give East Central credit as they outplayed us and just flat out controlled the tempo of the game.”

Fisher allowed two hits while striking out six and walking three in going the first six innings to pick up the win in the opener, with Kauk fanning two in a flawless seventh to polish off the shutout.

The Bronchos banged out nine hits, getting a 3-for-3 performance from Keegan Morrow and two hits from Kevin Blue.

Blue had an RBI single in the first as UCO took a 2-0 lead in its initial at bat of the game and the Bronchos broke it open with a five-run outburst in the fourth.

Tucker Brown had a two-run double, Arrow Cunningham a two-RBI single and Tyler Hancock a run-scoring single in that frame to make it 7-0 and UCO coasted in from there.

Ryan Schoonover gave the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap when he walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and stole home and it was 1-1 after three before ECU took control.

The Tigers scored two runs in the fourth and five in the sixth to open up an 8-1 lead and went on to collect 18 hits against seven UCO pitchers.

The Bronchos return to action Tuesday at Arkansas Tech and then go to Southeastern Oklahoma next weekend for another three-game LSC series
