LAS VEGAS, N.M. (Jan. 22) – Three straight bonus-point wins to start the dual gave Central Oklahoma a decisive lead and the No. 11-ranked Bronchos went on to rout New Mexico Highlands 37-9 here Friday afternoon.

UCO won eight of the 10 matches for their second lopsided win in a week over the Cowboys, having claimed a 36-9 win last week at the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas.  The Bronchos improved to 6-5 in bouncing back from a 26-15 loss to Adams State Thursday night.

The dual started at 174 pounds, with UCO getting a major decision by Cody Rowell, a fall by Tanner Keck and a technical fall by Jarrett Edison to grab a quick 15-0 lead. NMHU won the next two weights to pull within 15-9, but the Bronchos took the final five bouts to win going away.

“It was a tough day after last night's dual and having to travel like we did, but the guys responded in a positive way,” UCO coach David James said.  “We've got a lot of work to do, but there's still time left and we're going to do what we can to keep getting better.”

Cody Rowell started the Bronchos off with an 11-3 major decision at 174, Keck followed with a second-period pin and Edison rolled to an 18-2 technical fall to give the Bronchos their early lead.

The Cowboys scored a fall at heavyweight and Seth Wright, who knocked off top-ranked Tommy Edgmon of Fort Hays State Thursday night, blanked No. 8 Casy Rowell 4-0 at 125 to make it 15-9.

It was all UCO after that.

Trison Graham rolled to a 10-2 major decision at 133, Michael Walkup pulled out a 5-3 win at 141, Austin Standage scored a first-period fall at 149, Eden Bernstein won by injury default at 157 and Derrick Adkins hung on for a 5-4 victory at 165 to give the Bronchos the easy win.

UCO returns to action next Friday, hosting top-ranked and defending national champion Nebraska-Omaha at 7 p.m.
