KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 7) – Clint Straka had a complete-game pitching outing to lead a first-game win and Casey Bruns sparked an extra-inning victory in the nightcap as Central Oklahoma swept a Lone Star Conference twinbill from Texas A&M-Kingsville here Saturday.
Straka gave up eight hits while walking none and striking out seven in a 4-2 opening-game triumph, with Bruns scoring the tying run and driving in the winning run in a 10-inning 6-5 second-game win.
UCO took three games in the four-game series to improve to 11-11 overall and 8-7 in league play.
The Bronchos overcame a 1-0 deficit in the fifth inning of the opener with two unearned runs and then went up 4-1 in the sixth as Kellin Sheets and Blake Mitchell had RBI hits.
TAMUK got one run in the seventh to pull within 4-2 before Straka closed out the game to pick up his first win of the season.
Bruns and John Bryant had two hits apiece to pace the offense.
The Javelinas led 2-0 after four innings of the second contest, but UCO went in front with a four-run fifth as Andrew Foshee smacked a two-run home run and Ryan Schoonover added a two-run single.
TAMUK regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and the Bronchos tied it in the eighth when Bruns reached on a two-out single before scoring on Sheets' double.
UCO broke the deadlock in the 10th when Luke Yost walked, went to second on a passed ball and third on Brent Hodge's sacrifice bunt before scoring on Bruns' sacrifice fly.
The Javelinas threatened in their final at bat after runners on first and third with one out, but reliever Ryan Wagner got a strikeout and line-out to end the game.
Wagner picked up the pitching win, allowing just one hit and striking out four in 3 1/3 innings. Mitchell and Sheets had two hits apiece.
