CANYON, Texas (Oct. 10) --
West Texas A&M showed why it will be a top contender for the NCAA Division II national championship in sweeping past Central Oklahoma in three sets here Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos dropped a 25-19, 25-20, 25-13 decision as the No. 6-ranked and three-time defending Lone Star Conference champion Lady Buffs hit a sizzling .417 in ending UCO's three-match winning streak.

“We played them tough the first two sets, but WT has a lot of weapons and there's a reason they're ranked as high they are,” UCO coach Jeff Boyland said.  “We fought hard and we'll just put this behind us and get ready for next week.”

The Bronchos fell to 11-11 on the year and 3-3 in the league, while WTAMU improved to 20-3 and 6-0. UCO returns home to host league rivals Abilene Christian and Angelo State next week.

Kristen Wilson led the Bronchos with nine kills, with Zuela Adom adding six and Taylor Summers five. UCO hit just .114 for the match.

The Bronchos trailed 4-0 early in the first set before rallying to tie it at 10-all on a Ginger Gowen ace, but WTAMU scored three straight points to regain control en route to taking the set.

It was a back-and-forth battle most of the second set, with UCO grabbing a 12-10 lead on back-to-back kills by Wilson and Meaghan Wedberg.  The teams were tied at 14 and again at 17 before the Lady Buffs again used a three-point run to move in front on their way to the win.
